Western New York
Chemistry Olympiad
Training Session

A Training Session is held at Canisius College prior to the Local Section Olympiad Exam. Topics reviewed are:
Organic Chemistry
Acid/Base Equilibria
Redox Reactions and Electrochemistry

Students select two topics; each topic is presented twice for a period of one hour. Students do not have to be pre-registered to attend sessions and do not have to participate in these sessions to participate in the Local Section Exam. Training sessions are offered as a service to those students who wish some assistance in preparing for the Local Section Exam.

The training session is fun and informal, and cash prizes are raffled off to students and teachers from participating schools. Sessions are followed by a free meal of sandwiches and cookies.

In 2016 the Training Session for the Western New York Chemistry Olympiad will be held at Canisius College on Thursday, March 3, 2016. Canisius Faculty leading the sessions will be: Dr. Phillip Sheridan, Dr. Steven Szczepankiewicz, and Dr. Mary O’Sullivan, all from the Chemistry Department at Canisius College.

During this training session, we will give away two $100 checks to chemistry teachers from participating schools and eight $50 gift certificates to participating students. Checks will be mailed to teachers if they are not present.

Parking is free for this event in all college parking lots, except spaces marked for Loyola Hall. See the Campus Map, where the Horan-O'Donnell building is marked G.
